Smokin Mike's Hotdog Chili

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on a can of hot dog chili? There is one popular brand that has soy grits in it in place of meat. What fresh hell is this, you might ask? If you're a meat lover like me then this shall not stand. Here is a simple recipe for some very tasty  homemade hot dog chili.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 30 Minutes
Servings: Enough for an 8-pack of hotdogs

  • 1/3 lb. (5 to 6 oz) 80/20 Ground Beef
  • 1/4 cup finely diced sweet onions
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbl Worcester sauce
  • 2 tbl white vinegar
  • 1 tbl tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  1. Brown the meat and onions in a small sauce pan on very low heat.
  2. As the meat cooks, break up the burger with the edge of a spoon, stir occasionally.
  3. Once the meat is browned and the onions translucent, spoon off any excess grease.
  4. Add the dry ingredients then stir.
  5. Add the wet ingredients then stir.
  6. Simmer on low heat and stir occasionally until the sauce thickens up to your liking.
Refrigerate any left over sauce.

I was reading this as a recipe for chili with hot-dogs in it instead of beef. I was thinking that I have never seen cans of that in the store.


Good thing I kept reading! I will have to do this sometime. We have the Kirkland Signature hot dogs (the ones Costco sells in the food court) and they are great with chili on them (or on their own, really).
