Hey all!

A friend of mine recently bought a smoker. Just curious what your thoughts are.

My first thought is eliminate the pipe between the firebox and cooker. And make the opening a little bigger?

Howdy BeerTooth, good to see you.

Yeah, I think getting rid of the connector pipe and moving the firebox closer is a "no brainer". I'm sure you know about the pit calculator but here's a link to help calculate the firebox to cook chamber opening; viewtopic.php?f=32&t=104 If you don't directly couple the FB to the cooker I would come up with a lemon slice transition piece.

I'm guessing that the reason for the hinged top on that firebox is because there's a grill integrated in there??? The cooker looks pretty sturdy though.

It has to be more efficient without the connector pipe. Looks good though!

With my bad eyes and my humble opinion the stack is low but may still work if you bring the firebox up against the chamber as others have stated I like the look of it

I'm with Maniac. I think the lower a stack is mounted the more air flow is impeded but there are many pit builders who use a lower stack mount than I like.

If your friend can get ahold of the pit builder, have 'em sign up here and we'll be happy to make some suggestions on how he can build pits that work great out-of-the-box.
